LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis hosted one of the best teams in all of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics on Friday afternoon. The Eagles had the opportunity to play a No. 7 Brenau Tigers team that beat No. 10 Westmont 8-1 just yesterday.
Â
The visiting team defeated Biola 9-0 on a day when Head Coach
Dee Henry noted she was proud of the way her players fought hard against the tough competition.
Â
Henry trotted
Madeline Heer,
Kathryn Ashford,
Brooke Sanford,
Kelsey Post,
Katie Boesl and
Megan Ontiveros out to the courts of the Biola Tennis Center in singles play. All six student-athletes lost in straight sets as Brenau made quick work of singles.
Â
Ashford and Sanford were each able to work one of their sets to 6-3, but that was as close as any Eagle could get against the experienced and talented Tigers players.
Â
Doubles was a similar story, but the combination of Ashford and Sanford's skills at the No. 2 position helped make for quite the battle against Pala Rives Palau and Fathya Berjane of Brenau.
Â
Ashford and Sanford played to within four games of the duo from the school out in Gainesville, Georgia, but ultimately would fall 8-4.
Â
The loss drops Henry's squad to 3-7 on the season, while Brenau improves its record to 6-2. The Eagles are back at it Saturday afternoon as they host Arizona Christian at 1:00 p.m.
