Van Horn, Paravia Lead Eagles To Finish Sixth

Biola got a consistent performance at the top to finish sixth of nine teams at the UCSC Invite.

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. --- In its final regular season tournament of the 2015-16 season Biola Women's Golf experienced some highs and some lows en route to finishing sixth at the 2016 UC Santa Cruz Invitational.

The Eagles' best round came during Saturday's first round as Lauren Van Horn shot an 80 to lead the team to a 337. This score pit the team firmly in sixth place at 16 strokes in front of the host school, UCSC. Van Horn's 80 was a new season-best for her and was nearly nine shots under the average score for the tournament field.

Van Horn was the Eagles' highest finisher at the tournament thanks to a second round score of 86. This was one stroke back from Biola's lowest scorers during the second day of competition, but it was good enough to help Van Horn finish in a tie for 14th with a tournament score of 166 (+22).

Despite adding seven strokes to its team score during round two (344) Biola maintained its sixth-place standing as UC Santa Cruz could only make up three strokes on its own.

Sarah Paravia's consistent performance throughout the tournament played a big role in Biola's strong finish. The sophomore followed her round one score of 84 with a round two 85. She and Amanda Hobbs both led the Eagles in round two with 85s.

Paravia finished 23rd to be the second-highest finishing Eagle. She shot far better than the tournament average in both rounds to help her finish inside of the top half of the field with a two-round tally of 169 (+25).

Hobbs (28th - +28), Mary Karnazes (36th - +35) and Jasmine Rodriguez (42 - +43) rounded out the Eagles' scorers for the tournament. Only two of Biola's 10 rounds finished higher than the field average of 88.

Biola Women's Golf continues into its postseason competition with the GSAC Championship Tournament at Industry Hills Golf Club from April 25-26.
