Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sean Isaac had the Eagles' number throughout the afternoon on Friday as No. 22 Vanguard defeated Biola 6-2 at Eagles Diamond.
 
The Lions' senior starter went seven full innings and allowed just six Biola base runners in a shutdown performance on the mound. The only Eagle to reach base more than once was Sam Thorne in the leadoff spot.
 
The scoring started immediately as Vanguard got on the board in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly from their leading hitter Jose Rojas. Biola equalized in the bottom half when Alec de Watteville singled to bring JD Meyer around to score.
 
Both teams put up zeros in the second inning, but Vanguard got some more in the top of the third with the help of a triple, double, single and sacrifice fly.
 
That would be all that Isaac and the rest of the Lions' staff would need on a very quiet day for Biola's bats. The Eagles would pick up one run in the bottom of the third before getting shutout over the final six innings. VUSC would get a single run in both the fifth and sixth to work to the 6-2 final.
 
Beyer was saddled with his first loss of the season after going five innings, surrendering eight hits and allowing five earned runs. The Vanguard offense found hits off the Eagles' pitchers all day long, combining for 11 hits, with four for extra bases, in the win.
 
Gabe Ihrig and Sean Rothfuss both saw two innings in relief of Beyer. Rothfuss' two innings of work were efficient as he allowed just one hit and took 19 pitches to retire six batters.
 
Biola falls to 3-3 after the loss. The Lions improve to 5-1. The game was a non-conference meeting between these two Golden State Athletic Conference teams and will not count towards their GSAC records. The Eagles and Lions will play a non-conference doubleheader at Eagles Diamond beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
