CLAREMONT, Calif. --- After rounding out its indoor nationals team with the competition last week at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet Biola Track & Field shifted its attention a bit with this weekend's Rossi Relays.
Â
They events were hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps colleges and featured a field that was comprised primarily of NCAA completion, including PacWest Conference members Fresno Pacific, Point Loma and Concordia.
Â
Biola had student-athletes competing in 15 of the 32 different events, including just one relay (Men's 4x800m).
Â
"All in all, it was a good day for us but we definitely feel that there is a lot of room for improvement across the board," said Head Coach
Sean Henning.
Â
Since the event is the Rossi Relays it would seem fitting to begin our description of the day by highlighting the Eagles' strong performance in that 4x800m relay. Henning's contingent finished in the top half of the relau and completed the course in 8:07, which is 25 seconds faster than their seed time.
Â
Christina Clark was the only Eagle to compete in the women's pole vault this week as
Nicole Falkenstein was off preparing for her competition at indoor nationals next week. Clark represented very well with a 13
th-place finish and a jump of 3.20m.
Â
Clark narrowly missed clearing 11', which would have put her in ninth place. Another Eagle that narrowly missed the next level was
Kalee Grimm. Grimm finished 11
th in the high jump, but was just shy of hitting 5'2", which would have put her in sixth.
Â
The women's 3,000m was a strong event for Biola. The Eagles had five runners competing in it and three of those five finished inside of the top-25. The effort was led by
Kaitlin Quaid's 14
th-place finish. The freshman finished the race in 10:38 to put her just 15 seconds out of the top-10.
Â
Dylan Fredenburg performed well in the men's javelin. He finished first in his flight and placed 16
th overall as he tossed 42.73m (140'2"). This left him just a few feet off his lifetime best with a lot of competition still left in this 2016 season.
Â
Another member of the men's team that showed a solid trajectory for continued improvement was
Christian Yaotani. The first year runner completed the 100m dash in 11.35, which is five-tenths of a second faster than his seed time, to finish inside of the top-25 in the 54-man field.
Â
Coach Henning will take 11 women and five men with him to Johnson City, Tennessee this upcoming week to compete at the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Following nationals the Eagles get back to the outdoor season at CSU Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational.
