LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its annual all-region listing and of the 23 spots five were Biola Eagles. Biola dominated the southwest region landing one player on the first team and four on the second team.

Madyson Brown was Biola's representative on the first team. She was also named an All-American by the coaches' association. The sophomore defender had a fantastic follow-up to her award-winning freshman season by scoring three goals and setting up three others while playing air-tight defense.

Biola's four other honorees were Cat Newberry, Jessie Burns, Taylor Venegas and Samantha Verduzco. Those four made up almost half of the second team, with representation also from John Brown (Ark.), Vanguard, MidAmerica Christian (Okla.), Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and Menlo.

Newberry paired with Brown to anchor the Eagles' defense all year long. It was a defense that allowed fewer than 0.5 goals-per-game throughout the regular season, allowing opponents just six scores in 16 matches. Just yesterday it was announced that she earned her first career NAIA All-American honors, making the list as an honorable mention.

The other three all-region players provided the punch for this top-10 Biola team. Burns, Venegas and Verduzco were the Eagles' top three scorers with 21 goals between them. They helped lift Biola to its incredible season goal differential of +42 (51-9).

It was the final season at Biola for Venegas and Burns who were both four-year players under Head Coach Erin Brunelle and before her Todd Elkins. They will finish their careers as two of the most decorated student-athletes ever in the Biola Women's Soccer program as they both have a handful of all-conference awards, Burns has a top national academic award and Venegas earned All-American honors last year.

Biola Women's Soccer finished its season with a 15-2-2 overall record and made it into the NAIA National Tournament for the second year in a row. This came after a decade break in between tournament appearances.

Next season Brunelle's team will play its first year as NCAA Division II provisional members in the PacWest Conference.
