LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Following its 10-0 start to the regular season Biola Men's Basketball was recognized as the No. 1 team in the NAIA in Tuesday afternoon's NAIA Division I Top-25 Coaches' Poll. It is the first time since Feb. 5, 2002 that Dr. Dave Holmquist's Eagles team has claimed the top spot in the national rankings.

Biola began the year as the No. 4 team in the preseason poll, but it passed MidAmerica Christian, Georgetown and William Penn over the course of its perfect start in the past month and a half. The Eagles' two biggest victories came in a tournament at Concordia-Irvine where they faced two top-flight NCAA Division II teams (Chico State and CSU San Marcos) and came away with a pair of victories.

The Eagles are one of just nine undefeated teams left in the NAIA Division I. The team's 10 wins in two more than any other undefeated team left. Biola is one of just three programs with double-digit victories to this point in the season.

Biola earned 210 points in this first national poll of the new season. That gave the Eagles a two point edge over LSU Alexandria and Georgetown, who both had 208 total points and more first-place votes than BU. The Eagles had two first-place votes, which was just enough to lift them into the top spot. 

This is Biola's fifth No. 1 ranking since records began to be kept in 2000. All four previous No. 1 rankings came during the 2001-02 season. The Eagles went 8-2 during the month-long stretch it held the top national ranking back in early 2002. 

Biola has a chance to improve on its 10-0 overall record with two home games this week. The Eagles host West Coast Baptist on Thursday evening and then begin Golden State Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host William Jessup (8-3).
