PHOENIX, Calif. --- Jenny Zhang and Tori Roeske became the fourth and fifth individual tournament champions in the history of the Biola Women's Golf program on Tuesday when the pair both shot even-par on day two of the ACU Firestorm Fall Invite to tie for the individual tournament title.
 
The efforts of those two lifted the team considerably, but ultimately the Eagles finished one stroke shy of a tournament team title. Biola combined for a second round of 314, which sets a new program record for lowest team total in a round, to finish with a 634 for the tournament and place second behind Corban (Ore.).

Biola's student-athletes managed to shave eight strokes off of what was determined to be a nine-stroke deficit following the first round of play on Monday. It was reported that Corban led by 10 heading into today, but a scoring error by the Warriors actually left the deficit at nine as BU began to climb back into it this morning.
 
The loss by just one stroke can definitely leave a sting, but the effort to make it that close was extraordinary, especially by the two ladies who finished atop the leaderboard. With Roeske and Zhang leading the charge Biola managed to record two of the top-9 rounds ever shot in program history, as yesterday's 320 just snuck its way into the top-10. The team score of 634 is also 10 strokes lower than the previous program record for a two-round tournament. The record of 644 was set in this same tournament last year.
 
Roseke and Zhang finished their tournament just two strokes over par thanks to their pair of 72s on Tuesday. Roeske had one of the most even-keel performances ever for Biola women's golf as she went over par on just two of her 18 holes on Tuesday morning. She had bogeys on a pair of par-4s but then paired 14 pars with two birdies to level her score.
 
Zhang had a bit more up and down play on Tuesday, but was aided by her ability to earn birdies on nearly a third of the holes she played (5). Their 146 (+2) for the tournament is a new program-best for a two-round tournament. The previous record was a 149 (+5) shot by Jennifer Yoo at the Grand Canyon Fall Classic in 2007.
 
Outside of the Eagles' top-2, the other three scorers managed to combine to drop one stroke from their output during Monday's round. Mary Karnazes (82) and Bella Larson (90) stayed even with yesterday as one dropped two strokes and the other added two. Kristen Hicks (88) dropped one stroke to help towards the team total.
 
Biola Women's Golf finishes its fall tournament season with this second-place finish. It will be back on the course in February as it competes in the first of five scheduled spring tournaments, the Point Loma Reach Tournament.
