LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The rigors that come with being a collegiate student-athlete are essentially equivalent to that of a part-time job. Add to that all the work that goes into maintaining good grades with a rigorous academic schedule and it can be really challenging to pull off.
 
Four Biola student-athletes were able to soar above expectations in the classroom and were recognized today with CoSIDA Academic All-District standing.
 
Bri Mikalson, Jessie Burns and Mariah Ziemer from the women's soccer team were each awarded, and Keaton Kerr represented the men's contingent.
 
In order to earn Academic All-District standing the student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be a sophomore, junior or senior that makes a large on-field contribution to his or her team.
 
The three representatives of the Biola Women's Soccer team is in correlation to the on-field success that the undefeated No. 5 Eagles have experienced this year. Biola is looking to complete an undefeated regular season with two more matches this week. The Eagles' three award winners have combined for 10 goals and nine assists so far this season.
 
On the men's side, Keaton Kerr has had the best season of his three-year Biola career. The junior has started seven matches for the Eagles and has two goals and an assist to this point. He's helping lead the team through its final two regular season games this week and is hoping to lead the team to a top-2 conference finish.
 
Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's sports information office and all nominees are then voted upon by the all of district's sports information directors. Those selected as all-district then go on to a national vote to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
