LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After two grueling weeks of two-a-day practices over interterm Biola Swim & Dive finally got a chance to get back in the competition pool on Saturday in a set of dual meets with Azusa Pacific, Concordia and CSU East Bay.
 
The tired Biola swimmers held their own against some other Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference schools, but ultimately viewed the meet as just a warmup for the next few weeks of training for the PCSC conference meet and nationals.
 
"We had a good meet considering we worked the kids extra hard these past two weeks. They were definitely tired going into the meet and we really planned on using this as a training meet," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "However, they came out and swam very hard against some tough competition to show that we are getting closer to being ready for our conference meet in four weeks."
 
The women's side earned a slim win over Concordia (131-120), while losing to CSUEB and APU. The men lost to Concordia (the only other team with a men's program).
 
Despite the loss the men still managed to get five event wins on the day. Shane Brinson won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving, Edward Campana won the 100-backstroke, Ryan Harper won the 200-breaststroke and Charles Nanfria won the 200-butterfly.
 
Nanfria's 2:01.20 in the 200-butterfly earned him a new national cut. He was one of two swimmers to earn a new cut in this meet. Sammy Dammann also earned herself a spot in the 200-butterfly at nationals with a 2:19.25.
 
"I was especially excited to see Sammy and Charlie get their nationals cuts. It was the first cut for both of them and it was really exciting for the whole team to see them swim so well," said Shepard. "I think that this meet showed that we still have some work ahead of us, but that we are in a great place to have a strong ending to our season."
 
The Eagles have a week off before finishing their regular season with a meet in Fresno against Fresno Pacific and Loyola Marymount on Jan. 30.
