Box Score SANTEE, Calif. --- It was business as usual for No. 1 Biola Volleyball as it took down Golden State Athletic Conference foe San Diego Christian 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) on the road on Tuesday night.
"We were really balanced tonight. We did a really good job of moving the ball around a lot," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer.
That solid team effort is evidenced with one glance at the box score that shows four different Eagles with six or more kills on the night.
Ashton Arbuthnot and
Tori Moons did a good job of distributing the ball equally to each of the Eagles' big arms on a night where Biola played with great consistency and never surrendered any major runs.
Arbuthnot ended the night with 27 assists and Moons with 15 as Biola's offense annihilated the efforts from the other side. The Eagles had 44 kills in the three sets and held the Hawks to just 28. This gave Biola a 44-27 advantage on assists.
Biola held San Diego Christian to just one service ace while piling on seven of its own.
Tess Van Grouw led the way with three aces and
Alex Brehaut added two of her own. However, the Eagles were not very efficient with their serves because they also committed six service errors on the evening.
The closest set of the night was the second set. After building an early 5-0 lead Biola allowed the Hawks to slowly chip away and chip away to work their way back into the set. San Diego Christian won eight of 10 points in the middle of the set to finally knot it at 13 and begin to put some pressure on the Eagles.
Three consecutive points immediately after that helped Biola release the tension and open up the breathing room it needed to ultimately finish the set with a kill from
Christina DenBoer.
"We were really balanced tonight. The girls were really focused and consistent all the way through," said Seltzer. "We looked prepared and dealt well with a much-improved San Diego Christian team."
In her second match back
Alyssa Mason continued to wow us. She finished with a match-high 11 kills and did on just 17 swings to post a .471 attack percentage. She also did night shy away from the ball around the net, getting two solo blocks and a block assists as Biola worked its way to seven total blocks.
The seniors were the best players on the court throughout as
Joclyn Kirton and
Britta Blaser were Biola's next most efficient attackers and had consistent performances in the hour-long match.
The win moves Biola to an even 15-0 and helps the Eagles improve to 7-0 in GSAC play. San Diego Christian falls to 7-7 (2-5 GSAC). Biola's Wednesday night home match against Providence Christian was canceled so the team's next match is Oct. 6 at Vanguard.
