Three Straight Sweeps

Eagles dominate CSUDH behind 14 aces

IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball continued its strong run on Friday afternoon, sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) at the Vanguard/Concordia Kick-Off Tournament.

The Eagles controlled the match from start to finish, hitting .341 as a team while holding the Toros to a .154 clip. Biola also put constant pressure on Cal State Dominguez Hills from the service line, finishing with 14 aces in the three-set win.

Biola never trailed in the opening set and began to pull away midway through the frame. Leading 12-6, the Eagles used a five-point run behind the serving of Ashlyn Beebe, who delivered three-consecutive aces to stretch the advantage to 17-6. BU hit .435 in the set and cruised to a 25-12 victory.

The Eagles carried that momentum into the second. Madison Moore recorded back-to-back service aces during an early surge before Camille Solovjev helped Biola extend its lead to 11-2. BU recorded six aces in the frame and never allowed the Toros back into the set, closing it out 25-15.

Cal State Dominguez Hills kept things closer early in the third, but Biola again created separation. The Eagles turned a 5-4 advantage into a 10-4 lead behind the serving of Solovjev and eventually stretched the margin to 18-8. The Toros made a late push, but Natalie Ojeisekhoba put down the final kill to complete the sweep, 25-19.

Payton Tully and Haylee LaFontaine led the Eagles with 10 kills apiece. Tully hit .500 with just two errors on 16 attacks, while Alex Strating was nearly perfect with four kills on five swings for an .800 hitting percentage.

Lexi Lambert recorded 14 assists, a team-high 10 digs and three service aces, while Hannah Hanson added eight assists. Beebe also finished with three aces, and Moore, Solovjev and Hannah Guzzetti added two apiece.

Biola improved to 4-2 on the season and has now swept three-straight matches. They will finish the Kick-Off tomorrow, against Menlo College at 12 p.m.
