BUCKEYE, Ariz. --- Biola Women's Golf made history on Tuesday afternoon at Verrado Golf Club in sunny Buckeye, Arizona as the Eagles won the first team tournament championship in program history.
 
Freshman Mychaela Graf led the way by winning the individual tournament title, which is the second such title in Biola Women's Golf history.
 
"Our coaching staff is very proud of these ladies," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "They worked hard for this win and each one of them went out there with the mindset that every stroke they saved would contriubute to this team."
 
The tournament victory comes on the back of the lowest two-round tournament score in program history as Biola's scorers combined for a 644 (+68) to win the tournament by six strokes over the host school, Arizona Christian.
 
Biola's contingent overcame a day-one deficit of five strokes by posting a day two tally of 318 to run away with the tournament victory over the six-team field.

"It really was a team effort. Both days our fifth players came in with a score that we needed. You could feel the fight and intensity that each player had out there on the course," said Carr.
 
Graf followed her round one 75 with a round two 77 to post a final tally of 152 (+8). Her closest competitor was within one stroke after the first round, but fell six strokes back after the tough competition of the second day. Graf's two-round total is the third-lowest mark in Biola Women's Golf history.
 
After being the only Eagle to shoot in the 70s on the first day of competition, two other Biola scorers joined Graf in that range on day two. Sophomore Sarah Paravia and senior Jasmine Rodriguez posted 79s to help the winning effort through the final 18 holes.
 
Paravia tied for seventh overall with a 163 (+19), while Rodriguez finished in a tie for 8^th with a 164 (+20).
 
The final two Eagles on the second day of competition were freshman Mary Karnazes and sophomore Lauren Van Horn. Karnazes improved by four strokes from her round one score to card a 170 (+26) overall score and finish in 15^th. Van horn slipped back a bit in the second round and finished right behind Karnazes with a 172 (+28).

"They made history today. The players made memories today that they will never forget," said Carr. "We talk all the time about building a championship team, and I think today the ladies actually proved Biola Women's Golf is on its way."
 
Carr's squad gets back in action Sept. 27-28 in Prescott, Arizona for the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational. The Eagles finished fourth in a six-team field at that tournament a year ago, but do not look for history to repeat itself. Two of Biola's five opponents from this week's tournament also played at Embry-Riddle in 2014.
