RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. --- Lily Barrett is a first generation college student, and she will have quite the jam-packed college career as a nursing student and student-athlete. In December she committed to join Head Coach Eddie Shepard's swim team.
 
Barrett began to learn how to swim when she took "mommy and me" swim lessons beginning at just six months old. She got into competitive swimming at six years old and hasn't stopped since.
 
For the last four years she's swam varsity for Folsom High School, serving her final two seasons as the team captain. She qualified for CIF sectionals all four seasons and was constantly a leader within the team, winning the "most motivational" award as a freshman and sophomore and the "leadership pin" as a junior and senior. She also earned the coaches' award and Folsom High School Leadership Award during her senior season.
 
"I am very excited to have Lily join our team this fall," said Shepard. "Throughout the recruiting process I was impressed by her maturity and positive outlook on life, along with her swimming ability. As a strong IM and flyer, I am looking forward to how she will contribute to our program over the next four years."
 
Outside of the pool Barrett has been involved in many different activities throughout her high school career. She's held various positions in programs like the Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness Club, Global Perspectives Studies, Bulldogs Reaching Out Anti-Drug & Violence Club, the Freshman Kickoff mentors and the Interact Community Service Club.
 
She's also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and a Seal of Biliteracy recipient. In her "downtime" she's an avid Crossfit athlete and uses that on top of her swim workouts to keep in top shape.
 
"I am eager to begin practice with my coaches and teammates," said Barrett. "When I walked onto campus, I felt this is the place for me. I loved all the positive energy all of the students and faculty possessed when speaking of Biola."
 
Barrett begins classes at Biola this fall. She's majoring in nursing and hopes for a career in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital and helping as a nurse on missions trips.
