ST. LOUIS, Mo. --- Biola Women's Tennis is taking a Spring Break trip to Missouri, but today it was all about business, with the Eagles defeating Missouri Baptist 9-0 to post their fourth win of the season.
 
After rain and hail forced the players to the inside tennis courts, and a brief period of getting used to the echoes inside, Biola dominated all facets of this match, playing high-percentage tennis throughout and benefitting from it.
 
"You could hear the ball bounce so well and there was no wind," said Head Coach Dee Henry. "It took a couple of games to get used to the 'white noise.'"
 
Biola played intelligent tennis to sweep through the singles matches, with Madeline Heer, Susan Carmichael and Lauren Vogel finishing the quickest thanks to their ability to win all six games of at least one of their two sets.
 
All six Eagles won in straight sets, with only two sets going more than nine games total.
 
"The singles play was a combination of consistent and solid stroking of the ball," said Henry. "It was brilliant play. Everyone had a great understanding od when to play defense, when to neutralize a shot and when to attack."
 
Doubles was not much different, with all three pairings winning convincingly. The highlight was Kathryn Ashford and Carmichael's 8-0 win at the No. 2 position. Biola got 8-4 and 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
 
"All the doubles teams have their own strengths," said Henry. "They each communicated will and setup their partners for successful shots."
 
Biola improved to 4-15 with the win and dropped the Spartans to 1-7 on the season. Henry's squad stays in St. Louis for one more match, taking on Graceland University in a neutral site contest on April 9.
