LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The day before their conference tournament is slated to begin, Biola tennis players are honored by the conference for their excellence in the classroom. Three women and one male earn GSAC Scholar-Athlete recognition for the Eagles.
 
Tayven Townsend was one of just four men in the conference to earn scholar-athlete recognition. The senior business administration major joined a player each from Concordia, Vanguard and Westmont to make up the list.
 
The Eagles' three women honorees makeup just over a quarter of the total list of conference honorees (11 total). Kathryn Ashford, Susan Carmichael and Lauren Vogel each earned the academic recognition.
 
Ashford and Carmichael, both juniors, earned the award for the first time, while Vogel, a senior, becomes a two-time GSAC Scholar-Athlete.
 
Student-athletes must be a junior or senior in good academic standing and record a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered a scholar-athlete.
 
Play at the conference tournament begins tomorrow at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
