ST. LOUIS, Mo. --- The conclusion to Biola's spring break trip to St. Louis did not end up as successful as the start was, with Biola dropping its match with Graceland (Iowa), 3-6.
 
It was a brisk, windy day as the Eagles were held down by a high-percentage attack from the Yellowjackets. Biola remained close in most games, but was unable to win enough sets to get the wins needed.
 
Biola fell behind early by dropping the top two doubles pairings, 2-8 and 3-8, respectively. Brooke Sanford and Lauren Vogel combined at No. 3 to get an 8-3 victory. It was their fifth doubles victory of the season, and they were a perfect 2-0 in Missouri.
 
The Yellowjackets got wins at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions in singles play to burst to a 4-1 lead before Susan Carmichael made quick work of her opponent at the No. 3 spot. Carmichael got the only Biola straight-set win (6-4; 6-4) of the morning. She became 2-0 in singles on the spring break trip, and she's now 5-5 in her last 10 singles matches, making her the only Eagle at .500 during that stretch.
 
Biola needed to win the final three singles matches in play in order to get a win, which would not be what happened. The only Eagle able to escape with a win was Lauren Vogel in the No. 6 position.
 
All three of those remaining matches went further than two sets in some very competitive tennis. Vogel lost her first set 5-7 before taking set two 6-4 and the tiebreaker 13-11. She improves to 7-13 on the year with her second win in a row.
 
Biola is back in Southern California on Friday, playing at No. 17 Vanguard (5-14, 5-5 GSAC) at 1:00 p.m. The Eagles are now 4-16 and Graceland is 4-2.
