LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola played competitively in singles, but was out of step in doubles play in a 2-7 home loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday.
 
RPI took all three doubles matches handily and managed wins in four of the six singles matches, with Biola's only singles wins coming in a great win at No. 1 by Kathryn Ashford and a win by default for Kelsey Post in the No. 6 position.
 
"We were inconsistent in doubles, playing some great points and then missing a couple of shots," said Head Coach Dee Henry.
 
Ashford's match at No. 1 finished up after the match was already decided, so after she split the first two sets she had to win a super breaker in order to win her third singles match in a row. She got a 10-8 win over Casey Olson in that breaker to win the Eagles' only true match win of the afternoon.
 
Madeline Heer fought hard at the No. 2 spot, forcing both of her first two sets into extended tie breaks, splitting them with her opponent with each winning 8-6. She would go on to lose the super breaker 5-10 after a fantastic effort.
 
"Madeline hit a lot of high-percentage shots and played a really close one," said Henry.
 
The Eagles lost in straight sets in each of the other singles matches to fall to 3-13 on the season. The Engineers improved to 6-4 on the season with the victory.
 
Biola is back at their home tennis center on Saturday, facing San Diego Christian (2-10, 2-6 GSAC) at 11:00 a.m.
