LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola had a chance to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season with a win on Wednesday, but the Eagles fell one match short in a 4-5 home loss to Pacific Lutheran.
 
The Eagles had a 2-1 advantage through doubles play, getting big wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pairings, but could only muster wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, leading to the close loss.

"We saw great play, especially in doubles," said Head Coach Dee Henry. "There was good positioning to help close out points."
 
Madeline Heer and Kelsey Post earned the biggest doubles victory on the day, taking the No. 1 battle, 8-4. It was the duo's second win in a row and fourth in the last 10 matches. That ties Kathryn Ashford and Susan Carmichael for the best doubles record through the last 10 outings after Carmichael and Ashford combined to beat the Lutes' No. 2 pairing, 8-5.
 
Ashford was stellar at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-4; 6-3 victory over PLU's Caroline Dreher. Dreher was 2-8 in the No. 1 slot entering play on Wednesday.
 
Biola's other win came from Heer in the No. 2 spot. The sophomore had to battle through the longest singles match of the day, playing three sets with Allison McClure. Heer looked her strongest at the end of the match, winning set three 6-2 to seal it.

"Kathryn saw her opponent's weaknesses very well, and Madeline set up her points very well and closed out effectively," said Henry.

The loss drops Biola to 3-12 on the year and helped Pacific Lutheran improve to 5-6. The Eagles are next in action on Friday, hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the Biola Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
