LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola got off to a rough start to its 2015 campaign as it won just one of the nine matchups in its season-opener against (RV) Arizona Christian on Friday.
Â
Susan Carmichael was the only Eagle to win a match, defeating No. 41 Rafaella Zak Zak in straight sets (6-3; 6-1).
Â
"Susan makes great choices," said Head Coach
Dee Henry. "She can be down love 40 and adjusts and comes back for the win. Today, she outplayed her opponent."
Â
The Eagles were outmatched in all of the other matchups, especially in doubles, where the Firestorm won all three matches decisively.
Â
Biola had a lot to work through on this opening day of the season, including having to start late and a match that went on for nearly four hours.
The Eagles will look for a bit quicker and more successful match tomorrow when they play Cal Tech on the road at 11:00 a.m.
