LA VERNE, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field pulled double-duty on this second weekend of the 2015 indoor season, competing in Santa Barbara at Westmont's Sunshine Open on Friday and going head-to-head with La Verne and CSU San Marcos on Saturday.

The weekend was another successful one for the Eagles' athletes, highlighted by plenty of first-place finishes and a few more qualifications for the NAIA Track & Field National Championships.
 
Nicole Falkenstein and Jeff Trans shone especially bright this weekend, earning victories in the women and men's pole vault competition at both of the meets. Tran vaulted to 4.57m and 4.15m in his two victories, while Falkenstein posted a 3.5m and 3.45m showing. Tran's 4.57 puts him just one height shy of earning a 'B' qualifier for the NAIA national meet.
 
Biola also got two relay wins, with one of those relays, the 4x800m relay featuring Stephanie Croy, Hannah Feehan, Sarah Pfaff and Carrie Soholt, reaching 'A' qualifying standard on Saturday (9:33.26).
 
Also earning national qualifying marks on Saturday were Anika Gasner, who won the 1,000m outright with a 2:59.70, and Kellian Hunt, who placed second in the same event (3:02.12). It is Hunt's first qualification of the new season.
 
Kevin Horchler added another individual victory for Biola, winning the 5,000m at Friday's Sunshine Open and securing an 'A' national qualifying time of his own. He finished the 5,000 meters in 14:51.96, finishing over 11 seconds faster than the second-place man from Marymount (CA).
 
Biola's women's Distance Medley Relay, which has historically been its best event, sealed a convincing victory at Westmont and locked in its qualification for nationals with a 12:28.71. A group of veterans, Brooke Arvidson, Hunt, Ilima Kung and Gasner, locked down the qualification and will now likely take a break from it for a bit.
 
The Eagles will also take a break, lasting a week, before their schedule resumes with a meet at Soka on Valentine's Day.
