LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Everyone knew going into it that the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers Invitational was the most important, and fastest, meet of the Indoor Track & Field season so far, but the amount of success the Eagles' would have was not predicted.
Â
It was Biola's final chance to get some runners added to its NAIA National Championship team in advance of the March 5-7 Indoor Track & Field Championships, and the student-athletes came through, netting five new qualifications, a school record and a handful of personal-bests on Saturday.
Â
Emily Heisinger,
Taylor Holcomb,
Morgan Dworak and
Kate Smiley finished first of eight teams in the 4x100m relay with a :48.59, breaking the Eagles' record time of :48.87 that's been in the books since 2011.
Â
Smiley, Dworak and Holcomb combined with
Michelle Clark for success in another relay, the 4x400m relay, finishing second (4:04.47).
Â
Anika Gasner was her usual fantastic self, setting a stadium record and new personal-best with her 4:57.86 first-place finish in the mile. It was also another 'A' qualifying time for the junior.
Â
The men got solid performances from
Kevin Horchler,
Jeff Tran and
Andrew Daedler. Daedler came painfully close to a national qualifying time in the mile, running a 4:21.30 to finish less than a second shy of qualifying. He finished ninth in the 61-man field.
Â
Horchler added another event to his schedule at next month's national meet by finishing fifth with a 4:18.89 in the mile.
Jeff Tran competed for the final time for Biola, hitting a 3.95m vault to conclude a fantastic career with the Eagles.
Â
The 1,000m run on the women's side was Biola's most successful event on the afternoon as
Kellian Hunt,
Brooke Arvidson,
Michelle Clark and
Kathleen Bell all hit A or B qualifying standards and finished inside the top-13.
Alisa Murray also finished inside the top-20 with a 3:06.79. All of those runners set new personal-bests except for Hunt, who still finished higher than any other Eagle in eighth.
Â
Heisinger had the best outing of her young career with Biola, setting the record with the 4x100m team and finishing fourth in the 100m (:12.45), 28
th in the long jump (4.41m) and setting a new personal-best with an eighth-place finsih in the 200m (:26.24).
Â
Megan Ransom is the last runner who set a personal-best in an event on Saturday, finishing sixth of 13 in the 400m hurdles (1:08.78).
Â
Biola next competes at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio from March 5-7.
