LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis had another match against a top-flight NAIA tennis team, the No. 15 Vanguard Lions, on Friday, and it resulted in a 2-7 home loss.
 
"Vanguard was at full strength today and our players gave them quite a match," said Head Coach Dee Henry. "There were lots of really close games."
 
Biola again got one win in singles and one in doubles, the third time this season it's accomplished that in a losing effort.

It's No. 1, Kathryn Ashford, defeated Vanguard's No. 1, Sarah Edwards in two very competitive singles sets (6-4; 7-5). The win pushes Ashford to 3-1 in her last four Golden State Athletic Conference singles matches.
 
"Kat used high-percentage shots to set up her points and closed effectively," said Henry.
 
While Ashford was the Eagles' only singles win, the others did not go down without a fight, with two other players forcing their match to three sets by splitting the first two with the top-ranked Lions.
 
Madeline Heer was one who forced her opponent to three sets (2-6; 6-2; 1-6). She was able to pull out the second set victory by adjusting her pace and scoring off some solid ralleys.
 
The other three-set match came at No. 4 between Kelsey Post and Michaele Sullivan. Sullivan ended up getting the three-set win (6-1; 2-6; 6-1). Post stole a set, but her opponent made adjustments and changed her timing to get the win.
 
Those two also happened to be paired together for doubles play earlier in the afternoon, and they were the only Eagles duo to get a victory. They took No. 1 doubles 8-4 over the Lions' top pairing.
 
"Mady and Kelsey are doing great at setting each other up for winners at the net," said Henry.
 
This becomes the second time this season that Biola got wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. The last time came in Biola's 8-1 win over Hope International.
 
Biola resumes its season schedule on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., hosting BYU-Hawaii.
