Brown, Venegas Earn All-American Honors

Madyson Brown makes the All-American First Team, while Venegas earns honorable mention honors.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The 2015 Biola Women's Soccer season was one that saw the team wildly outperform the expectations most would have for a program in its first season under a new head coach.

The Eagles finished the first year under Head Coach Erin Brunelle as one of the top-16 teams in the nation with a 15-4-3 overall record and a place in the second round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

Now, some of the individual members of this talented team are getting recognized for their efforts in carrying the Eagles all the way to the season it had this season. Madyson Brown's flashy first season of collegiate soccer earned her a spot on the NAIA All-American First Team, while junior forward Taylor Venegas' scoring abilities placed her on the list of All-American honorable mentions.

Brown played in 21 of the Eagles' 22 matches and accumulated 1,922 minutes on the pitch, which was third best on the team to two other defenders. She was a part of a back line that helped Biola to 11 shutouts, which was the 13th-best total in all of the NAIA.

She and the rest of the Biola defense held opponents to just 19 goals across the 22 matches played this season. That was 20 fewer goals than what Biola's offense was able to create. Brown even had one of those 39 goals the Eagles' scored as she knocked in a header during Biola's second round game at the national tournament.

A source of a whole bunch of those goals was Biola's flashy forward Taylor Venegas. The junior finished her third season with nine goals and two assists as she worked her way to her second all-conference recognition and first All-American honors.

She came one goal short of her preseason goal of 10, but she still set a new career-best with her nine tallies to increase her career total to 19. She's got one more season to add to that number as she comes back next year for her senior season.

The Eagles will return a good contingent of this season's team next year as only one member of the starting lineup for the team's final game was a graduating senior.
