HIGHLIGHTS & INTERVIEW

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball found itself at home for the first time in nearly a month on Wednesday night and it enjoyed the friendly confines of Chase Gym in a lightning quick three-set (25-15, 25-10, 25-16) win over Life Pacific College.

It was the third time this season that Life Pacific visited Chase Gym, but it was the first time the Warriors had the chance to face No. 1 Biola.

Unfortunately for them the Eagles put it all together on this night and ended up cruising to the team's 20th win of the season. Biola held Life Pacific to seven or fewer kills in each of the three sets while recording 17-16-11 in the set-by-set for itself.

Joclyn Kirton and Alyssa Mason led the Eagles' attack like normal, but Biola also got contributions from many others in a night where the coaching staff got to try out a bunch of new combinations of attackers.

Stephanie Jewett had one of the most impressive games of her young Biola career in accumulating six kills from the right side. She got those kills on 12 attack attempts and posted a solid .333 hitting percentage.

"I though Stephanie did a really good job with a really good attacking percentage on the right side," said Assistant Coach Abbie Wright. "I thought some girls stepped up in some roles they were not used to playing, so I was overall impressed with them."

Aside from a few miscues in the third set Biola's attack was on point from start to finish Wednesday night as the team combined for a .375 hitting percentage.

This was largely aided by the Eagles' second set that saw them without a single attack error. Biola landed 16 kills at a .615 clip in its largest set win of the night.

"I think that we got better today, and that was the goal," said Wright. "Before every match we talk about ways we can improve no matter who our opponent is."

Biola dominated in every statistical category up and down the board. It had a plus-six advantage in blocks, which was in large part due to another fabulous performance at the net by Mason. She had at least one hand on five of Biola's seven blocks.

The Eagles also had a 10-2 advantage in service aces. Two of those aces came from Tess Van Grouw in the midst of an eight-point run late in the third set that was one of the highlights of the match. Van Grouw had three of the Eagles' 10 service aces, which tied Ashton Arbuthnot for the team lead.

The win improves Biola to 20-2 overall, while the visiting Warriors dropped to 7-19 on the season. This season is their first as a newly resurrected program at the school in San Dimas.

Biola's next match comes at home as they host Menlo College in a return to Golden State Athletic Conference action this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
