LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist's men's basketball squad was selected to finish fifth in the 2015-16 Golden State Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
The Eagles received 43 total points in the coaches' vote to slot in behind Vanguard and just in front of William Jessup. Biola Men's Basketball has had eight consecutive winning seasons following last year's 16-15 mark and looks to improve on its 2014-15 4-12 GSAC record.
 
The biggest storyline heading into this season is that Holmquist is just nine victories away from 900 career collegiate coaching wins. He enters 2015-16 with a 891-354 (.716) over his 38 years as a collegiate head coach. His 891 victories are the eighth-most of all-time at any level of collegiate coaching.
 
He returns six players from last year's squad while adding six new players to complete his 12-man roster. The biggest returners are both returning starters in junior guard Dakari Archer and sophomore forward Steve Herve.
 
The class of incoming players includes four transfers and two incoming freshmen. Trevor Treinen made waves at Servite High School in Irvine and looks to make an immediate impact here, while Holmquist reached all the way out to Valdez, Alaska to find his other incoming freshman, Levi Auble.
 
The team has more size than it had in previous years with the addition of five players that are 6-foot-5-inches or taller. Sherman Vernon II and Jeff Gonzalez both stand out among the bunch at 6-foot-7-inches each.
 
Biola begins its season on the road at Benedictine University Mesa on Oct. 30. The first home game of the season is against that same school on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles begin GSAC play with a road match at San Diego Christian on Dec. 5.
 
Arizona Christian was picked by the coaches to win the conference. The Firestorm accumulated 78 points and seven of the nine first place votes. Hope International and Westmont were the other two schools to receive a first place vote.
