LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a very successful week on the field for both the Biola men and women's soccer teams between Oct. 4-10, and the effort was recognized with one player from each side awarded with a Golden State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Marina Rodriguez was in goal for both of Biola Women's Soccer's GSAC victories this week and held Menlo and William Jessup scoreless in two 1-0 victories at Al Barbour Field. Her efforts earned her the GSAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
This is Rodriguez's first career conference honor. She's been Head Coach Erin Brunelle's go-to keeper to this point in the conference season and has compiled a 3-0-1 overall record in her four starts this season. She's allowed just one goal in those outings for a miniscule 0.21 goals against average so far.
 
John Hanscom scored two goals on Thursday and one on Saturday in helping Biola to 4-1 and 3-1 victories over William Jessup and Menlo. It was his first three goals of the season and he also drew a penalty kick for the Eagles in a very productive offensive week. He was awarded the GSAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
This is Hanscom's first career conference award. He has three goals and three assists this season. His nine points puts him behind only Leo Contreras, Joey O'Keefe and Devin Leon. The nine points matches his output from 17 matches a year ago and is just six off of his career-high of 15 points from two seasons ago.
 
Rodriguez is Biola Women's Soccer's second conference award winner of this season. The Eagles' two wins from this past week helped them improve to 9-1-3 overall and 3-0-2 in conference play. They sit two points behind No. 10 Westmont in second place in the conference.
 
Hanscom is Biola Men's Soccer's first conference award winner this season. His team's two victories this week pushed the Eagles into first place in the conference standings. Biola is one point in front of No. 3 Vanguard.
 
Student-athletes are nominated for weekly conference awards by the sports information director at their given institution. A committee of conference SIDs then vote for the weekly winners. Fall awards include men and women's soccer offensive and defensive player of the week and volleyball attacker, defender and setter of the week.
