Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The offense just keeps coming for Biola Men's Soccer, as the Eagles got a trifecta of tallies in a Golden State Conference victory over Menlo on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in La Mirada.
Â
Recap:The chances at goal began immediately as the two teams tried to use all of its early energy before the attacking players began to get fatigued by the 100-plus degree temperatures coming off the turf at Al Barbour Field.
Â
Menlo had most of the early chances as they seemed to be the more dangerous side early on. Biola got two good attempts at goal from
Devin Leon and
Stephen Tanquary through the first 15 minutes while the Oaks took for shots in that span.
Â
The next shot that came was a score as
John Hanscom broke the scoreless tie with his third goal in the last three days. He took in a rebound off a shot from Leon and pushed it back cross-cage to give the Eagles a lead.
Â
That lead would hold throughout the remainder of the half as the two sides began to have fewer and fewer chances to push the ball into the dangerous attacking zones as the half went on.
Â
The second frame saw more substitutions, more fresh legs and more offense. The Oaks' Eli Bunton was the first to find the back of the net in the second half. He struck one from outside the penalty area in the 60
th minute that knotted the score line. He would later receive a yellow and red card for unsportsmanlike conduct. It was one of two red cards the undisciplined Oaks team had on the day.
Â
Biola did not let the tying tally get them down, but rather continued to press forward until
Jarrett Pugh was able get the game-winner in the 78
th minute. He had two phenomenal chances on goal in a span of seconds and made the most of the second one to put Biola up.
The third score sealed the win as Tanquary cashed in on a penalty kick opportunity in the 85
th minute. This helped Biola successfully make a big turnaround from when it tied Menlo 0-0 at their place earlier this season.
Â
Top Performers:Sammy McKay had a strong game on the back line winning balls for Biola throughout the game and grinding with the rest of the defenders to hold the Menlo side to just four shots-on-goal.
Â
Jarrett Pugh cashed in for the second time this season by getting the game-winner to make the most of his 58 minutes on the pitch.
