VENICE, Calif. ---- Tucie Shelp was a two-sport athlete during his time at Pacifica Christian High School, and he will bring that athleticism to Eagles Diamond this spring as he joins the Biola baseball program.
 
"I chose Biola because God made it clear to me that he wanted me here," said Shelp. "The spiritual side of Biola is like no other school I visited."
 
Shelp comes to La Mirada, California after four years of varsity ball with the Pacifica Christian Seawolves of the Liberty league. He enjoyed an immensely decorated and successful high school career, as Shelp comes to the Eagles with a CIF Championship and CIF Championship MVP award in tow.
 
Shelp combines speed and a knack for contact to rack up some eye-popping statistics. His senior campaign saw him maintain a staggering .607 batting average, while blasting nine home runs and legging out four triples in just 16 games on the diamond.
 
"Tucie impressed the staff here at Biola with his God-given ability and potential as a player and person," said Head Coach Jay Sullenger. "He will have an opportunity to push for a spot in the lineup right away if he learns how to use his speed on both sides of the ball."
 
Speed indeed, Shelp also excelled in track and field as a Seawolf, as he placed first in the Liberty league in the 100m, long jump and high jump. While he excelled in both sports, he also earned dean's list academic honors in 2010 and 2013.
 
When not competing, Shelp enjoys surfing, which is something he can spend plenty of time doing living in Orange County.
 
Shelp began classes at Biola last week and will lace up the cleats for fall and spring action at Eagles Diamond this year. He is currently studying kinesiology and has plans to become a baseball coach.
