Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- After a spotty start in Monday's exhibition match, the Eagles turned it on when it mattered and earned a 3-1 win over Northwest (WA) in their season-opening neutral-site match.
Â
Biola dominated all aspects of the contest by controlling possession, making wise passes and executing when given solid offensive chances.
Â
Perhaps the most glaring demonstration of this dominance is the fact that the Eagles compiled 13 shots-on-goal, while they held Northwest to a measly three.
Â
After nearly netting a goal in the waning minutes of the exhibition match on Monday,
Taylor Venegas would not be denied in the early going on Thursday afternoon. The sophomore forward was able to recover a loose ball in the 10
th minute and convert it to pay dirt on her first shot of the match.
Â
Northwest had a solid chance off a corner kick in the 20
th minute, but just did not have the attacking power needed to knot the game up against
Marina Rodriguez.
Â
Rodriguez spent the entire contest between the pipes for the Eagles, picking up two saves and allowing one goal.
Â
Northwest's lone goal came too late though, as it came after Biola extended its lead to three with two deep goals late in the first frame. These came off the boots of
Miranda Starbeck and
Margaret Guadarrama.
Â
Acacia Johnson netted the lone tally for the visiting team.
Â
Biola's win gets them off to a 1-0 start to the season. Their next countable contest takes place at Al Barbour Field on Sept. 1. The Eagles go head-to-head with the Bethesda Flames at 4:30 p.m.
