SOUTH GATE, Calif. --- Sal Carlos is a local product who is coming home to play basketball at Biola. He is a shooting guard from South Gate who is coming off a career of lighting up the scoreboard at Downey High School.
 
He averaged 17.9 points per game, 5.4 boards per contest and nearly three assists per game in his time as a Viking. He was able to parlay those numbers into a co-league MVP honor and All-CIF second team selection.

Carlos led his team to a 23-6 record in 2013-14 and he helped them to a 9-1 mark in San Gabriel Valley League play. He should feel right at home as he joins the Eagles, because he has a chance to join his former Downey HS teammate, Dakari Archer.
 
"I chose Biola because I love the hospitality from everyone. It is almost family-like," said Carlos. "They also have what I want to major in. I am very excited to attend Biola University and make the most of it."
 
Carlos is just as good off the court as he is on it. His 3.0 cumulative grade point average at Downey HS should continue into his college years as he aims to keep Biola men's basketball as a NAIA Scholar Team.
 
He enters school in the fall and will be throwing the ball around J. Richard Chase Gymnasium all winter long. He plans to study kinesiology, with hopes of entering a career as a physical therapist.
 
"I feel that at Biola I will grow not only in faith, but as a man," said Carlos. "It will help me become responsible and also help me interact with all the fascinating people at the school."
