LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Last week, the Biola track and field program showcased what it was capable of on a national level, but all season long its student-athletes have shown what they are made of in the classroom, resulting in 19 combined NAIA Scholar-Athlete nods.
Â
The 11 women's scholar-athletes and eight men's scholar-athletes are the most among any sport at Biola during this competitive season, and they are riddled across the largest and arguably most competitive roster of this competitive season.
Â
In order to be considered an NAIA Scholar-Athlete the student athlete must be at least a junior and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Â
Biola's 19 scholar-athletes represents 70 percent of its junior and senior scholar-athletes, a remarkable ration for such a large roster.
Â
Head Coach
Jonathan Zimmerman's teams are always among the tops in the country academically, so all of these honors does not come as much of a surprise. The next step will be for his teams to earn NAIA Scholar Team recognition when the honors are announced early next week.
Â
Among the 19 scholar-athletes are nine members of Biola's 2014 track and field national teams and numerous school record-holders and All-Americans.
