LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior-itis? Spring slump? Only here to play sports? None of the above are true for tennis' Paige Erickson, Maura Lopez, Lauren Vogel, Chris Evans and Isaiah Pekary, all of whom were all named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Paige Erickson receives this honor for the second year in a row, and the business marketing major achieved both as a member of Biola's prestigious Torrey Honors program. On the court, she paired with Lopez and Vogel at doubles, going 5-5 combined.

Another two-time scholar-athlete, Lopez finished off her stellar academic career with a great season on the court. She is a senior and also a part of the Torrey Honors program. She is majoring in intercultural studies with dreams of becoming a linguist and Bible translator. Lopez won seven matches this year, a personal high.

Vogel receives her first recognition as a scholar-athlete. The No. 4 and 5 singles player paired with Kelsey Post to go 8-8 in doubles, the second-best record any Biola pair had this season. Vogel is majoring in communications with the desire of a career in advertising.

For the men, Evans and  Pekary both earn their second straight recognition as scholar-athletes. The two seniors contributed across the board with Pekary an ever-present player for the Eagles and Evans a competitive doubles player. Only 94 men's tennis players recieved the NAIA scholar-athlete nod. In addition to the scholar-athlete recognition, Pekary was recently named a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District athlete.

In order to be a recipient of the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, the athlete must fulfill the following requirements: a junior or above in academic standing; has been in attendance at the nominating institution two full academic years as a non-transfer student or a minimum of one academic year as a transfer student; has a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination deadline.
