Biola Alums Show They're Boston Strong

Katie Thede, Sarah Brooks and Kelsey Gasner all finished inside the top-550 at the Boston Marathon.

BOSTON, Mass. --- Biola has had a long history of phenomenal distance runners in its women's track and field program, and three of Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman's recent alums continued that legacy with runs in the Boston Marathon this morning.

Sarah Brooks, Kelsey Gasner and Katie Thede had 17 NAIA All-American honors between them in their time at Biola, and all three women finished within three minutes and 16 seconds of one another in the 26.2 mile race on Monday morning.

Brooks led the way with her 3:11.35 finish, while Gasner and Thede were bunched up and finished with 3:14.26 and 3:14.51, respectively.

Each of the three runners began their Biola careers in 2007, and all three were graduated by 2012. They were a sampling of the diverse spread of recruits Zimmerman brought into the program, as Thede originated from Oregon, Gasner from California and Brooks all the way from New Hampshire.

All three are now employed full-time and reside in Southern California. Each of the three Biola alums finished among the top 550 women. Fourteen-thousand six hundred and twenty eight women entered the 2014 Boston Marathon.
