Biola's Ladies Get 80s

The Eagles all shot solid rounds on day one of the UCSC Invite, getting in the 80s despite rain.

Amanda Hobbs and Jackie Mata finished as the top two for Biola in a rainy round on Saturday.
PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. --- It was a dark, rainy day up north as the Eagles completed play on day one of the UCSC Invitational at Pacific Grove Golf Links.

The weather provided for some stunning scenery as Biola made its way through a solid first round at the tournament. All three of the Eagles' golfers shot in the low to mid-80s, making for one of the best afternoons of the season.

Jackie Mata led the way with her 84, making 10 pars on the afternoon, including six on the back nine, which is laid out across a beautiful ocean backdrop.

Amanda Hobbs got off to a solid start when she nearly hit her tee shot onto the green on the par-4 ninth hole off the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Hobbs ended up sinking par to start her round and finished with an 85 on the day.

Jasmine Rodriguez ended the afternoon with an 86, bunching up all three Eagles within three shots of one another. She also experienced success on the ninth hole, getting her lone birdie of the day on that hole.

"It was great seeing all of our Eagles shooting solid 80s scores, especially in the wet, rainy, windy conditions," said Women's Golf Coach Jane Carr. "I am very proud of how they stayed focused and stuck to their routines despite the wind and rain."

Biola teed off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning to begin its final round of play. This is the final tournament of the season before the Eagles take part in the Golden State Athletic Conference/Cal Pac Championships in mid-April.
