Lucas Lee showed grit by pulling off a 7-5 win in the last set of Biola's 5-4 win.

Lucas Lee had plenty to celebrate on Tuesday night, as he was the man to end Biola's four-match losing streak with a big three-set win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second time in as many matches Biola took its match until the very end before getting a decision. It was a long, tense match that made good use of the lights at the Biola Tennis Center.

Last time the Eagles went to the ninth match of the day still waiting for a decision it ended working out better for their opponents than them, but this time, against Golden State Athletic Conference foes Hope International, Biola was able to get the gritty 5-4 victory.

Lucas Lee was the final player on the court for the Eagles, squaring off with John-Douglas Owens at the No. 1 position. He and Owens went back-and-forth in the first two sets and then forced a tiebreak in the match deciding third set.

"Lee battled close in the third set that went to 5-5," said Head Coach David Goodman. "Lee broke his serve and held his own to win the match."

This matchup was one of two that went to three sets in Tuesday's match. Those lengthy matches not only extended the day, but made the match more competitive as they were the final two matches to be completed. Lee won the match at No. 1, while Tayven Townsend suffered a loss at the No. 4 slot.

Townsend was able to take one match for the Eagles earlier in the day with a doubles pairing win with Isaiah Pekary. The Eagles struggled in doubles play, losing the other two matches.

Biola took three of the first four singles matches that were completed in order to set themselves in a solid position headed into the final two matches.

The win helps Biola improve its already solid season by moving the team to 6-9 (3-3 GSAC) and dropping Hope International to 2-14 (0-6 GSAC).

The Eagles swept the season-series with the Royals, defeating them 6-3 exactly a month ago.
