One Steps Forward, One Steps Back

Biola had an up-and-down day at the second round of the Augustana Spring Fling Invite.

Jasmine Rodriguez had the best round of the tournament for Biola, shooting an 84.

PALM DESERT, Calif. --- Biola finished up its time in the desert with a back-and-forth second round. The day was better for some, but worse for others as the Eagles slid up and down the individual rankings.

Jasmine Rodriguez followed up a 90 (+18) from yesterday with Biola's lowest round of the tournament on Friday. She shot an 84 (+12) to bump herself up to a 42nd place finish.

"She shot a 45 on the back and had a stellar 39 on the front nine," said Women's Golf Coach Jane Carr.

Rodriguez had to work hard to position herself where she got after starting the day in the bunker on her very first hole. She saved bogey on that whole and played well throughout.

Jackie Mata had the second best tally for the Eagles for the second straight day. She shot an identical 88 (+16) to end her tournament tied for 44th place. It is her lowest finish of the season and something she will definitely have straightened out by the next time out.

After leading the Eagles with an 85 yesterday, Amanda Hobbs slid back just a bit on day two by shooting an 89. This dropped her into a tie with Rodriguez at 42nd with a 174 (+30).

West Florida won the team competition with a combined score of +40. The Eagles did not qualify for a team score because they did not have enough golfers to register a total score. Elin Olsson of the Argos won the individual crown with two even-par rounds.

The Eagles have one more tournament left in their spring regular season and then will compete at the NAIA Qualifier April 14-15.
