PALM DESERT, Calif. --- Things got wild and crazy at the Augustana Spring Fling Invite as day turned to dusk and conditions worsened at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
 
Unfortunately for Biola, its golfers were saddled with late tee times for their first round play on Thursday and had to battle with some of those conditions in the late stages of their rounds.
 
Jackie Mata, Jasmine Rodriguez and Amanda Hobbs were again the three golfers who got the call to compete as individuals by Biola Women's Golf Coach Jane Carr.
 
All three of the golfers found a way to place inside of the top-50 with their day one tallies at a competitive late spring season tournament.
 
Rodriguez found a solid way to finish her round by getting up and down well on the final par-5. She hit around the water hazard and had to chip up to save par in the crazy late-round weather.
 
"The last two holes were played in gusting circular winds that created tough conditions for Biola's late tee times," said Carr.

The par on that lengthy hole helped Rodriguez not go over 90 as she ended her round in a tie for 45^th place at 18 over par.
 
Hobbs continued her string of solid rounds by shooting an 85 to lead the Eagles on the afternoon. She had to battle the elements as well, and even had the unfortunate circumstance of needing to hit a shot from off a cart path.
 
It was the first time the freshman has ever had to hit a ball off the roadside, but she made it through just fine by saving a bogie after getting solid contact.
 
She sits in a five-way tie for 30^th following her 13-over round on Thursday afternoon.
 
Mata is literally sandwiched right between those two after her first-round 88. It was not a normal round for the senior captain who normally averages an 84.
 
She will look to rebound and climb higher than her current 41^st-place tie in tomorrow's second and final round.
