SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- As the records begin to fall, track season is officially in top-gear. The Eagles have had three record-shattering displays over the course of the last seven days, beginning with Carrie Soholt's half-marathon, and concluding today at Westmont.
 
Soholt participated in the Surf City Half-Marathon last Sunday and parlayed her time into a NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship qualifying time and new Biola record. She ran a 1:23.05 to hit the "A" standard and break Biola's record, last set in 2009 by Kristin Schmidt.
 
Marc Opena and Anika Gasner headlined Biola's trip to Westmont today, setting school records in the 60m hurdles and the 1,000m.
 
Opena has won the 60m hurdles three weeks in a row, and can now claim that he set Biola's record in that particular event two seasons in a row. He broke his own record by running an 8.46. He came just .06 seconds shy of hitting the NAIA provisional qualifying mark.
 
Gasner kept it in the family by breaking her sister Kelsey's record in the 1,000m. She ran a 2:57.20 to pace a group of four runners in the event who hit a NAIA Indoor National Championship qualification standard. Three of those four runners came from Biola. Gasner was joined by Kellian Hunt, Alexandra Sciarra, Lyndee Dawson and a runner from Fresno Pacific in the top five.
 
Elyse Harabedian and Sarah Vaughan each had a very busy day as they competed in the first pentathlon of the season. Harabedian took sixth overall and Vaughan came in eighth.
 
Jordan Smith kept himself nearly as busy as those women, competing in four individual events. He won the high jump (1.80m) and placed second in the 200m (23.58) and long jump (6.31m). He rounded out his events with another "podium finish," a third-place mark in the 60m.
 
The Eagles hit one more national qualifying mark on the afternoon, making a "B" standard in the 4x400m relay on the women's side. Alexandra Sciarra, Anika Gasner, Kate Smiley and Megan Ransom teamed up to finish third with a 4:02.13.
 
Biola ran with about 30 student-athletes this weekend, and will double that next week at Concordia's Last Chance Indoor Qualifier.
