RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Things did not go quite as well as planned as Biola finished its time at the California Baptist Women's Invitational on a cool, hazy Tuesday morning.
 
Jackie Mata felt the effects of the weather early on, as she shot a quadruple-bogey on a par-five in just her third hole of the contest. This high number virtually immediately eliminated her ability to come close to her round of 81 from yesterday.
 
"It is always challenging to overcome a big number in the first few holes of the tournament," said Women's Golf Coach Jane Carr. "Jackie is a fighter, and that was evidenced as she tried to fight ball all day."
 
Mata ended up fighting back fairly well, ending the day with an 88 (+15). Her final score of 169 (+23) was good enough to tie her for 34^th place overall.
 
Freshman Amanda Hobbs looked to keep the good vibes going after shooting her career-low round yesterday. She continued her strong play through the front nine, finishing the first half of the day on pace to shoot an 81 (+8).
 
"She played a strong scorecard today," said Carr. "She worked her way to nine pars and just seven bogeys. Amanda is emerging this spring as the player we knew she would be."
 
Hobbs would end her round with an 83 to finish the tournament at 162 (+16). She had her strongest career finish by placing in a tie for 17^th place.
 
Jamine Rodriguez's struggles continued on Tuesday, despite being paired with her teammate, Mata. The sophomore followed her first round 90 with a 91 (+18) on day two.
 
"Jasmine is still feeling the effects of an illness she contracted after our last spring tournament," said Carr. "It is tough to play good golf when you are not 100 percent, but Jasmine wanted to travel with her team, and she gave her best today."
 
Biola did not qualify for the team competition because it only sent a contingent of three golfers. California Baptist took the top spot in their own tournament by shooting a two-round total of 621 (+37).
 
Tina Yang and Marvi Monsalve took the top two spots in the individual competition to lead the Lancers to their 13-stroke victory. Yand finished at two over par to finish the closest to par of any player.
 
Biola's spring season continues with the Augustana College Spring Fling March 13-14. The even takes place in Palm Desert, Calif. at the Classic Club.
