RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola resumed play in its second half of the 2013-14 season with a tournament hosted by California Baptist at the prestigious Victoria Country Club on Monday morning.
 
Eagles golfers teed off at 8 a.m. to begin the first round of their second tournament of the spring season.
 
The tournament features athletes from many of Biola's local rivals, including: California Baptist, Point Loma, University of Redlands, CSU San Marcos and Arizona Christian. The Eagles sent three representatives to the tournament, but did not have enough representation to compete in the team competition.
 
Amanda Hobbs led the Eagles with her lowest round of the season, shooting a 79 to tie for 15^th after the first day of action. She chipped in a birdie on the eighth hole to help her get the boost to break under 80 for the first time in her collegiate career.
 
She entered the tournament with a season-average of 89.  The 10-stroke improvement shows how much she has worked on the course, and she hopes to keep it going in the final round tomorrow.
 
Jackie Mata came in just behind Hobbs with a solid round of 81 (+9). She shot eight pars and one birdie, and nearly added a second birdie with a 25-foot put that finished just short on hole nine. This was Mata's fifth round of the year with a score of 81 or below.
 
Jasmine Rodriguez was the third, and final, Eagle to put in a round on Monday morning. She sits in a tie at 52^nd through the first round of play after a 90.
 
California Baptist ended the round with a solid seven-stroke lead in the team competition, and it also had the individual leader on its roster. Tina Yang shot the only round under par on the day with a 70.  She holds a three-stroke lead through one round.
 
All of the student-athletes head back onto the turf at Victoria Country Club to complete the tournament on Tuesday morning.
