Another Honor For Andre

Andre Murillo becomes the first Biola men's basketball Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Andre Murillo is the Eagles' highest scorer, biggest rebounder and he keeps up in the classroom as well. This is evidenced by his recognition as Biola's sixth Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the year.

Murillo becomes one of 10 players in the College Division to attain this honor. He was named to the second team of five student-athletes in the college division, which includes schools from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and junior colleges.

In order to qualify for the honor, student-athletes must be in at least their second season with their school and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

It is also a requirement that they be a starter or key reserve. Murillo definitely fits that bill, leading the team in scoring (16.8) and rebounding (9.9) and field goal percentage (.565).

He was named a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District athlete earlier in the year, and got named and Academic All-American after another round of voting by the members of CoSIDA.

This is Murillo's second academic award of his Biola career, he was an NAIA and Golden State Athletic Conference scholar-athlete in his first season with the team (2011-12).

Murillo is in his final season with the Eagles, and he has a chance to become a two-time schola-athlete later this year.
