COMMERCE, Calif. --- Biola finished off its third day of competition at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center with two fourth-place team finishes in the 2014 Winter Collegiate Invite.
 
Three Eagles earned individual event wins on Sunday afternoon, and one swimmer secured his first national cut to conclude a long, but successful, three days of competition.
 
"We had a great finish to a long three-day meet," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "I was surprised to see so many fast swims today because I know all the kids are tired from the first two days of the meet and studying for finals."
 
Edward Campana was the first Eagle to win an event on Sunday, taking a three-second victory in the 200-backstroke (1:53.66). He met the national qualifying mark for this event for the first time. Next came another win for Lisa Tixier. The freshman swam a 2:23.90 to win the 200-breaststroke over a swimmer from the host school, La Verne.
 
Christine Tixier is the third Biola swimmer to get a win on Sunday. She swam just over two minutes in the 200-butterfly to take the two-second victory.
 
"They came out to really race today," said Shepard. "The result was that we had one of the best mid-season meets in the history of the program."
 
Andrew Corl earned his first national cut of the season with a fifth-place finish 1:59.76 in the 200-backstroke. Victoria Dunbar had a solid day, with two new national cuts on her record. She swam a :56.07 in the 50-freestyle and a 5:24.09 in the 500-freestyle to hit the mark.
 
Haley Baker, Sophia Dammann, Matthew Flodin, Charles Nanfria, Megan Nerud and Cort Sharp also each earned a national cut on this very fast day.
 
Biola's swimmers broke a record for the fourth time this meet as the Tixier sisters, Nerud and Angela Kirschner swam a 3:31.41 to set a new low mark in the 400-medley relay.
 
"It was really great to see all the hard work they've put in over the last three months result in so many fast swims. I think this meet gave us a great exclamation point to first half of our season and gives us great momentum going into January."
 
The Eagles have a lengthy break until their next meet, a dual meet against Fresno Pacific, which takes place in the SPLASH! Aquatic Center on Jan. 31.
