COMMERCE, Calif. --- Biola spent the first of three straight days at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon, breaking two school records to start the 2014 Collegiate Winter Invitational strong.
 
The first record to fall came in just the first event of the meet, as Megan Nerud, Lisa Tixier, Christine Tixier and Angela Kirschner won the 200-medley relay with a 1:47.33.
 
They took first place over La Verne, the host school's, 'A' team by just over a second. The quartet broke a record that three of the four were involved in setting at last spring's NAIA national championship meet.
 
The next record to fall came in an individual event, the 400-individual medley. Freshman Lisa Tixier outswam her older sister by nine-tenths of a second to break a mark set by April Smith at the 2011 NAIA national meet. This is the first individual school record broken this season.

"It was a really great start to the meet with some really strong swims," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "I knew that we would swim well this meet, but I did not think we would see two records fall on the first day. I think their success today is a good sign of what is to come for the rest of this weekend."
 
Kenny Alcosiba had a great moment on the men's side, claiming his first NAIA national cut in his three seasons on the team. He finished 10^th in the men's 400-individual medley with a 4:17.18 to book his ticket to Oklahoma City.
 
Biola sits inside the top half in the team standings on both the men and women's side of competition. The men's team accumulated 262 points to sit in third place behind Concordia and Occidental. The women's side stands in fourth with 367 total points. Concordia, La Verne and Azusa Pacific hold the top-three spots.
 
Friday night's competition focused on the relays, as the 200-medley, 400-IM, 1,650-freestyle and the 800-freestyle relay. Biola had top-five finishes in all four relay events.
 
Tomorrow afternoon is when most of the action takes place, with six individual events, before four more conclude the meet on Sunday.
