LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released its 2014 Fall Season Scholar-Athletes, and Biola landed 14 student-athletes on the list.
 
The Eagles' academic prowess is illustrated as the 14 athletes from soccer, volleyball and cross country all maintained cumulative grade point averages above 3.5 while competing in their sports.
 
The NAIA Scholar-Athlete award supports the NAIA's goal of building character-driven intercollegiate athletics.
 
Cross Country led the way with Brooke Arvidson, Kathleen Bell, Megan Callender, Anika Gasner, Ilima Kung and Carrie Soholt all achieving scholar-athlete status. Soholt earned the honor for the second time in her career with the other five earning it for the first time.
 
Carlos Cristhian Aparicio, Anna Barrett, Joshua Crichton, Shea Davis and Miranda Starbeck represented soccer on the list. Barrett, Davis and Starbeck are all repeat honorees while the rest claim the honor for the first time.
 
Lauren Hoenecke, Alyssa Mason and Amy Weststeyn all added NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition to their all-conference honors. Jaci Schork was also honored when the scholar-athlete awards were announced. She was named the Biola Champions of Character representative at the NAIA National Tournament.
 
In addition to meeting the grade point average requirements student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically to earn the recognition.
