LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second year in a row, Biola sweeps the major awards in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Four Eagles were named to the 2014 All-GSAC squad, released Monday, headed up by GSAC Player of the Year, Amy Weststeyn, and GSAC Coach of the Year, Aaron Seltzer.
 
This is the second year in a row Weststeyn earned conference player of the year honors and second straight time Seltzer was named coach of the year. It is the fifth time in his career Seltzer has won the GSAC nod.
 
Joining Weststeyn on the All-GSAC team is Alyssa Mason, Joclyn Kirton and Lauren Hoenecke. Those four led Biola to a 28-4 overall record and its first conference championship since 1997.
 
Weststeyn earned her fourth career All-GSAC recognition with another stellar year. She worked her way to 421 kills and led the NAIA with an attack percentage of .445. The senior middle blocker was also dominant at the net, leading the conference with 140 blocks. She increased her blocking as the team progressed into its conference season, averaging 1.26 blocks per set against GSAC teams.
 
"Amy gets a lot of attention, and deservedly so, but I think she'd be the first to say that she has a lot of really good girls around her who make her even better," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "I think getting four kids on this all-conference team is really indicative of the talent we have all over the floor."
 
Joclyn Kirton earned her second-straight All-GSAC honor with another consistent season as one of the Eagles' outside hitters. She was third on the team in kills, with 322. She averaged 2.81 kills per set, which put her fourth overall in the conference. She had a .272 attack percentage to be one of the five Eagles inside the top-10 in the GSAC in that category.
 
"Joclyn has been such a consistent kid from day one," said Seltzer. "She has been a rock and a catalyst, taking all the big swings in crunch time."
 
Alyssa Mason is another outside hitter who claimed her second straight All-GSAC honor this year. She's made the all-conference team in each of her first two years since transferring from Pepperdine.
 
After a rebirth at the 2013 NAIA National Championship tournament, Mason came into this season on an absolute hot streak. She worked her way to 322 kills and squeezed in with an attack percentage just over .300 at .301. She was also one of four Eagles with 60-plus kills.
 
"Alyssa has taken big steps this year. She went from just getting comfortable last season to really playing incredible this year," said Seltzer. "Her blocks are up, she's attacking better and she's even been playing some defense and back row at times."
 
Lauren Hoenecke became an All-GSAC player for the first time this season in what was a big-time breakout year for the junior middle blocker. She played in six times the number of sets she appeared in last year and reached triple-digit kills for the first time in her career.
 
Hoenecke hit .322 during the season, but was even better in conference play. She hit .332 against GSAC opponents and recorded more than half her season kills.
 
"There is no one that has improved as much as she has," said Seltzer. "She got a chance to play this year and has been phenomenal. She is a great girl who works really had and deserves it."
 
These four and the rest of the Eagles get back into competition with NAIA National Championship Tournament Final Site play beginning Dec. 2.
