Eagles Earn First Win With Sweep

Biola takes down Mississippi Christian in straight sets at the Dallas Classic.

DALLAS, Texas --- Biola Volleyball picked up its first win of the 2026 season on Friday morning, sweeping Mississippi Christian in straight sets (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) at the Dallas Classic.

The Eagles were tested early in a back-and-forth opening set that featured 13 ties. Biola worked its way to a 24-20 advantage, but Mississippi Christian responded with four-straight points to even the score. Juliana Van Ommering stopped the run with a kill before the Eagles secured the final point for a 26-24 win.

Biola carried the momentum into the second set and quickly created separation. The Eagles built an 11-5 advantage and never looked back, cruising to a 25-15 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Mississippi Christian pushed back in the third and built an 11-7 advantage, but Biola responded in a big way. The Eagles rattled off an 11-point run behind the serving of Camille Solovjev to turn the four-point deficit into a 19-11 lead. Biola held off a late push to close out the set 25-20 and complete the sweep.

Savannah Simpson led the Eagles offensively with 12 kills and just one error on 19 attacks, hitting .579 for the match. Haylee LaFontaine added nine kills and four service aces, while Van Ommering finished with eight kills on a .350 hitting percentage. Alex Strating contributed four kills.

Hannah Hanson and Lexi Lambert split the setting duties, with Hanson recording 17 assists and a team-high eight digs and Lambert adding 14 assists, five digs and two aces. Solovjev also recorded two service aces as Biola finished with eight as a team.

The Eagles hit .232 while limiting Mississippi Christian to an .086 hitting percentage and improved to 1-1 on the season with the win. Biola continues play at the Dallas Classic.
