BREA, Calif. --- Daniel Jang did not have to travel far to get to Biola, as he is a local talent from Brea Olinda High School. BOHS is located just under 10 miles from Biola's campus and played home to the Eagles' new starting pitcher and second-baseman for the last four years.
 
Jang is one of two new submarine pitchers to join Head Coach Jay Sullenger's staff for the 2015 season, but he also excels with the glove and served as Brea Olinda's cleanup hitter his senior season.
 
He will offer some pitching depth with experience as a starter and a closer and can also be utilized as an infielder, pinch runner and pinch hitter. He should see quite a bit of playing time in the spring and is already reached base twice, pitched 3.1 innings and racked up six putouts and seven assists through two games of Biola's Red vs. Gray intrasquad series.
 
"Daniel had a great senior season at Brea Olinda High School. He knows how to collect outs on the mound and just finds ways to win," said Sullenger. "He was a guy that got it done when his team needed him. He will be given an opportunity to be an impact on both sides of the ball here at Biola."
 
Jang brought in the hardware during that senior season with the Wildcats. He was the team MVP, the Century League Utility Player of the Year, all-league first team and played in the Ryan Lemmon All-Star Game. In addition to all of that, he earned the Brea Baseball Good Guy essay scholarship award.
 
Jang will study kinesiology during his time as an Eagle, with hopes of becoming a physical therapist.
 
"I love to work with kids and I want to help them through their injuries and maximize their opportunities to play," said Jang. "I chose Biola because I wanted a place I could play baseball and strengthen my walk with God. I fell in love with the close community and I knew God was calling me to this wonderful place."
 
Jang and the rest of the 2015 Biola Baseball squad is currently in the middle of its annual Red vs. Gray series. Play resumes on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. and concludes with a 3:45 p.m. contest on Friday and noon game on Saturday.
