LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola had a fantastic showing on the second day of its 2014 season, earning 15 more national cuts and posting some great individual finishes in the PCSC Pentathlon.
 
Christine Tixier and Lisa Tixier again stole the show, earning four NAIA national cuts each. Both sisters hit qualifying times in the 100-butterfly, 100-breaststroke, 100-freestyle and 200-Individual Medley in the annual pentathlon.
 
"I was impressed by Christine and Lisa. They both swam some incredibly fast times for this early in the season," said Head Coach Eddie Shepard. "We've been training really hard and our swimmers came into the meet tired."
 
The PCSC is structured so swimmers can choose to compete in a series of events of different distances for the Individual Medley or Freestyle only. Shepard encourages his swimmers to pick whichever leg of the pentathlon they want to participate in.
 
A lot of them made the correct decision, as nine Eagles made it inside of the top-15 overall scorers in the pentathlon they selected and competed in.
 
The Tixier sisters, Kenny Alcosiba and Abby Blake all finished inside the top-10. All but Alcosiba reached new national cuts on the afternoon. Blake swam in the distance freestyle pentathlon, placing seventh overall, and qualified for nationals in the 200- and 500-freestyle.
 
Alcosiba did not make any national cuts today, but he did standout as the marquee performer on the men's side. He chose to swim the IM events and went sub-1:00 in every 100-yard event. He placed seventh among the 20-plus swimmers in that leg of the pentathlon.
 
"Kenny put in some really strong swims, and I was very excited to see him place in the top-10," said Shepard.
 
All of the Eagles' swimmers who placed inside the top-10 were rewarded for their efforts with an awesome PCSC Pentathlon tank top.
 
Two of the highlights of the day came courtesy the building sibling rivalry between the two Tixiers. They went head-to-head in heats in the 100-butterfly and 200-IM and in the end were separated by just over a 1.5 second average in the two events. The older Tixier took first place overall in the butterfly event, with Lisa finishing second. The younger sister got her revenge by out-touching her big sister to finish second and third in the IM.
 
Edward Campana had a solid day in just his second meet with the Eagles. His performance was highlighted by a second-place overall finish in his bread-and-butter event, the 100-backstroke.
 
"I was tremendously pleased with how well our teams did today," said Shepard. "We had some really strong performances from our returners, as well as some standout performances by our rookies."
 
The team gets right back at it next Saturday at the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Mills College. It will serve as the team's big road meet outside of the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
