Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola picked up its third win of the year on Saturday after downing the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan 2-1. The win came off a game-winning goal from Miranda Starbeck in the 65^th minute.
 
The win was not always a sure bet as BU came out a little slower than OKWU early in the first half and seemed to be playing more of an individual game rather than attacking with a team approach.
 
Despite playing their fourth game in just eight days, including two games in Montana, Biola should have been the more energetic squad on the field as they took on OKWU. This is because Oklahoma Wesleyan just played a full overtime draw against Hope International less than 24 hours ago.
 
"I was a little bit disappointed because I think we came out a little lethargic early in the first half," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "They are the team that played yesterday, and they were on the road. I was looking for the girls to make them feel that more."
 
Biola shook off the early rust fairly quickly as they were able to strike for the first goal of the game just 17 minutes in. Amanda Lillicrop won the ball from an OKWU defender and pushed it along to Michelle Clark who found Chrissy King on the right post, and King converted cross-cage for her team-leading third goal of the year.
 
"I was little frustrated early on," said Elkins. "Those games come sometimes, when you can have a frustrating start, but you still need to find a way to win the game."
 
King's goal seemed to right the ship for Biola early on, but some miscues on the defensive end allowed one of OKWU's Brazilian imports, Ana Popov to strike from 15 yards out and tie the game in the 24^th minute.
 
"When they got the equalizer, we allowed some life back into their game," said Elkins. "They had some really dangerous forwards, so we had to come together and play some solid team defense if we were going to stop them."
 
The game remained tied into halftime, when Elkins made a goalkeeper switch, subbing in Brianna Williams for the starter Marina Rodriguez.
 
Williams needed to make some big saves early on in order to hold the tie, and she did. One of her biggest saves came on a dangerous cross that she charged out to grab in the 49^th minute.
 
"I thought she came in with some really good energy and good confidence," said Elkins. "When she stepped out right away and grabbed that half-shot, half-cross she made a statement, saying 'I'm here and I'm ready'"
 
Williams would eventually claim her second win of the season due to her second half shutout.
 
That win would not have been possible without the foot of Starbeck, who converted her second goal in as many games off of a free kick opportunity from the top of the box.
 
"Miranda is starting to realize that our team needs her," said Elkins. "She is not only a good player, but we need her to be a leader out there. She is starting to game-by-game take more responsibility on the field."
 
The win move BU to 3-2-0 on the year and drops Oklahoma Wesleyan to 1-1-1. BU was awarded 11 corner kicks, but they were unable to convert on any of them, and they were also tagged for nine offside plays.
 
"I am proud of the girls for putting it together in the second half," said Elkins. "It was not pretty, but it was a win, and it showed us what we need to work on for the next game."
 
After a long string of games, the Eagles have a long break as they do not play again until they host CSU San Marcos Sept. 19.
