Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second time in the last three games it took more than 90 minutes to find a winner, but Head Coach Todd Elkins does not mind the extra soccer, especially after a win.
 
"The good things about overtime is that once you score a goal you don't have to defend," said Elkins. "It is super exciting for our guys, especially after going down early to a really good ranked team."
 
The Eagles surged to their fourth consecutive win on Friday night, getting the overtime winner off the head of Stephen Tanquary to down No. 14 Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-2.
 
The game-winning goal was Tanquary's second of the day and third in the last two games, and it helped BU improve to 4-0-0 on the year while OKWU dropped to 2-1-0.
 
"He is tireless and always working hard," said Elkins of Tanquary. "He is constantly trying to sniff out that next opportunity. He stays with the play until the very end hoping to poke one in off a deflection or get the rebound. I like his attitude."
 
The game ended in favor of Biola, but it definitely did not begin that way, with two major setbacks occurring in the first 33 minutes of play.
 
The first setback came just two minutes into the first half when Lucas Cordeiro received the sweep pass from Felipe Guedes directly in front of the net and booted it in for the goal as he almost ran right through to the back of the net.
 
At this point Biola had a big mountain to climb as they trailed very early to a skilled, and ranked, opponent. Initially they did not respond very well to the go-ahead goal as OKWU still seemed to have the edge over the back line of BU. Oklahoma Wesleyan was able to set up a few good opportunities off of hustle plays into their offensive third, and even managed to set up a corner kick just three minutes after their goal.
 
The corner kick did not lead to anything though, and the next big chance came to Biola in the 22^nd minute. After the back line regained possession, John Hanscom got the ball and had some open field in front of him, but a defender charging from his right side. He decided to take a chance and shot a high arcing ball toward the goal. His ball was deflected off of the charging defender and redirected into the back of the net for Biola's first goal.
 
"Once you can settle in and start playing your game without being consumed with what they are doing, you will start to do well," said Elkins. "As the game wears on, you realize that this is our field and they are far away from home. Our confidence starts building."
 
A scary moment came at the 33-minute mark as BU defender Joao Toscan caught a cleat in the turf and went down hard with some damage to his right knee. Toscan, the center defender on the Eagles' back line would not return for the rest of the night and left BU with another emotional obstacle to overcome.
 
"He is such an integral part of our back line," said Elkins. "He is such a good ball winner, and he has been getting better at distribution also. It was a big hit to lose him. I was not sure how we were going to respond."
 
Despite a second goal from Cordeiro in the 67^th minute, the team held it together and fought to create chances and find a way to level the score on their home turf.
 
Their pressing paid off as Tanquary notched his first goal of the evening in the 80^th minute after converting the rebound of a Joey O'Keefe shot for a score.
 
He would score again in the first overtime period and gave BU their first win over a ranked opponent since they took down No. 4 Concordia late in conference play last season.
 
The win helps the Eagles finish their four game season-opening home stand blemish free, and they will pack to go on the road and face La Sierra at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
